I Made a Quilt!

I’ve always wanted to make a quilt but I thought that it would be too long of a process.  I’ve been wanting to make Carly some new bedding so I decided to just start on a quilt for her and work on it whenever I could. I came up with the design and dimensions on my own. I went to pick out the fabric last Thursday and finished it today!  I probably spent about 90 minutes a day working on it.  The hardest part was putting on that dang satin binding!  That took me Saturday through today to finish.   Now I want to learn how to do some free-hand machine quilting for the next quilt I make.

I love that window-themed fabric!  The other fabrics are stripes, bird cages, and lovebirds facing each other with a heart in between them.

The back is light pink with white mini polka dots.

And this is what Carly did while I was working on it…

Big Girl Bed

Carly decided last week that she wanted to start climbing out of her crib instead of sleeping. I prayed that day would never come but it did.  I had no idea what to do because I hadn’t really thought about moving her into a toddler bed yet.  So the next day after a crazy night of hearing Carly climb out of her crib and hearing her open her door we decided to convert her crib into a toddler bed.  That night (her first night in the toddler bed) I laid down with her in her bed for about an hour.  She was too excited about her new bed and she couldn’t sleep.  I just decided to say goodnight and hope that she didn’t decide to try to open the door.  She ended up crying in her room for about 10 minutes and then she was quiet.  Casey and I were so excited that she fell asleep but we had no idea if she made it to her bed or if she just fell asleep somewhere on the floor.  I knew I wouldn’t be able to go to sleep not knowing  if she was in her bed or not so I braved opening the door and she was asleep sprawled out ON HER BED!!!  When she woke up in the morning she went to her door and started knocking for us to come open the door and get her!

Since then she has been a champ sleeping in her bed and has stayed in her room and fallen asleep in her toddler bed at nap time and bed time.  When she wakes up in the morning she just plays in her room until we go get her. I am so thankful that it has been an easy transition.  Where did my little baby go?

Jacob got his mission call!!!!

My little brother Jacob got his mission call today!  I can’t believe my baby brother is going to be a missionary. I really am such a proud older sister.   He is an amazing kid. I  took some video of the festivities. You have to watch the video to find out where he’s going to go :)  I love you Jacko!

Updates

The vacation feeling has ended and we are back in the swing of things.  Casey has been really busy with school (as expected) and it’s been so amazingly nice to be living with my parents.   It’s nice to be able to hang out and talk with my parents when they get back from work.  It makes only seeing Casey an hour a day easier.  Casey has been loving school.  He doesn’t love always having homework but he loves everything he’s learning and all the people he gets to meet.  He’s already made a lot of contacts with different companies, and it’s exciting thinking of all the places we could end up.

As for me,  if you haven’t already concluded, I love being back in Utah.  I know we won’t still be here when Casey graduates so I’ve been trying to soak up everything.  I miss Wisconsin a lot though.  I was uploading some pictures yesterday and I saw pictures that Casey took the day before we moved.  He took pictures of random signs, stores, streets etc.  I started to cry.  It’s really hard to move!

Yesterday Carly turned 22 months.  She STILL only has 4 teeth, but I THINK 4 more may be coming in…  I am so sick of chopping her food up into tiny pieces that she can gum.  Pray for more teeth!  She is a little chatter box now.  She loves to talk and she loves to try to read.  She knows almost every letter in the alphabet, and she points out letters everywhere.  She is a smart cookie.  She is obsessed with the potty and will be ready for potty training soon.  I don’t think I'm ready for her to start potty training though-I don’t care what anyone says but changing a diaper is a lot easier to me than trying to get Carly to go potty on the toilet!!!

I promise I will update my blog more now.  I needed a break from the computer.  Casey got me a flip video camera (which I am in love with!) for our anniversary so I’ll upload some videos too.  AND Friday I’ll be back with Things I Love Fridays.

I’m back!

We picked up Casey’s school laptop today so now I have my OWN laptop.  Casey has been using “mine” for school for the past 3 weeks which meant that I didn’t have my pictures or Live Writer.

Last week we went to the BYU football game.  Casey woke up that morning and said that it felt like Christmas.  I was pretty excited to go too.  We hadn’t been to a BYU home game since 2006.  We brought Carly along.  She LOVED it and did really well watching.  She kept saying “Go Couggies!”  Casey, of course, had the time of his life.  When the team ran out at the beginning of the game tears started to well up in his eyes.  We are so excited to be back in BYU football land!
