What I’ve Been Doing…

  I go through different crafting cycles.  Sometimes I really feel like sewing, and that will last for a month or so, and other times I feel like crafting/painting/refinishing.  Lately I’ve really felt like sewing.  I didn’t sew at all before I had Carly – I didn’t even own a sewing machine.  I didn’t have any confidence in my sewing abilities so I never sewed.  But now if I see something that someone has (usually baby/kid stuff) that I think is cute I will probably try to make it on my own.  It gives me something to do plus it saves money (sometimes).

Here are my latest projects.

I made a bedskirt for Carly’s even bigger girl bed.  We are getting her a twin-sized bed this week.

Another project for Carly’s new bed: I found this headboard at Savers last week for $10!  They sell these at Walmart and Target for like $125! It was white originally, but had a lot of paint scratched off and scuff marks so I liquid sandpapered it and spray painted it ballet slipper pink.

For “baby sister” (Carly’s name for the baby in my belly): I made this car seat canopy. I didn’t have one of these for Carly because I swear they didn’t exist 2 years ago, and I wouldn’t have thought to make something like this anyway.  I am so excited to have one of these for our next baby!

I learned how to machine-smock with elastic thread a few months ago.  Since then I’ve been crazy making skirts people.  I’ve made four smocked skirts for myself in the past few months.  I figure they’re nice to wear in the bigger pregnancy stages. Here are my latest skirts that I’ve made for myself:

Now I need to find some new projects! 

Carly’s version of the ABCs

I think this is a really cute video of Carly’s ABCs.  She sings all the time and this is one of her favorite songs. 

Nastics!

Carly has been taking gymnastics for the past 2 months.The class is on a converted school bus.  I was skeptical at first but Carly and I have both loved it.  The equipment on the bus is different every week and there’s just enough space for little toddlers to do everything.  Another plus is that the bus comes and parks in front of your house so you don’t need to drive your kid anywhere!  Carly has learned a lot and I think it’s really good for her to be in a class setting. 

                          

             

               

                       

Casey accepted an internship!

Ever since school started in August Casey (and I) have been on the search for good internship. I’ve wanted somewhere where it wouldn’t be too inconvenient to have a baby and then move back to Utah right after and Casey has been looking for somewhere where he’d love to work. Casey has interviewed with a lot of companies.  It has been really hard deciding because he could potentially get a full-time offer with the company he interns with.  Anyway, It came down to some places and we had a really tough time deciding what to do because there were pros and cons to each place.  He ended up deciding on Savage in Salt Lake! Casey was very impressed with the management and their ethics.  I am very excited because Casey already loves the company, and because we don’t have to move this Summer!  I was up for anything before I got pregnant but now staying here sounds like the perfect plan.   We were so excited last Friday when he accepted that we got Seven Peaks season passes to celebrate! 

Side note: We find out what we’re having in 3 weeks!

Recent happenings

We have been pretty busy here in the Green household – Casey especially.  He, along with 3 other MBA students put on a case competition at BYU last week. Casey and I worked hard to get things ready for the event like get name tags, name tents, gift packages etc. Schools from all over the US came to participate as well as judges from all over the US and the world.  Casey got to wine and dine with high-ups in the Social Entrepreneurship field.  He got to talk business with the Marriotts and the Peerys.  In May he gets to go to a third-world country (either in Africa or S. America) to create a basis for the case competition next year.   It’s so fun to see how excited he gets about going to school.  BYU has an amazing network of people that donate their time and $ to give MBA students tons of experience.  Casey has been having the time of his life at MBA school.  It has been such a great experience for both of us.

Casey has been interviewing at a lot of places for internships. Last Friday he interviewed with Savage and then flew out to Omaha to interview with Union Pacific.  It’s been weird to see how our thoughts about companies have changed either for the better or worse.  At the first of the year I thought I knew where we’d end up, but I have been wrong.  He hasn’t accepted any job offers yet, but hopefully soon we’ll be able to narrow down our options. I am really excited to see where we end up and where we’ll have our baby! 

Carly has been deep in her terrible twos.  A few days ago she found White Out somewhere and as I was chasing her to get it away from here she opened it up painted her lips and threw the open bottle on the carpet.  That took me 2 + hours to clean up.  On the other hand, she is such a sweetheart and loves to give hugs and kisses to everyone.  She used to be the nursery bully but has recently become the nursery sweetheart (thank goodness).  She has moved on from Dora and now prefers Team Umizoomi and Blues Clues.  She also loves to eat now.  She got over her picky-eater phase and now eats what we eat.  She especially loves to eat apples and bananas, and still loves milk.  She has been an awesome sleeper and loves to sleep with her stuffed animals and all her blankies (she has 5 now, I made a few back-ups).  She calls herself Lolly even though she can say Carly.  We love our Lollypop!

My little brother Jacob has been at the MTC for the past 3 weeks and he leaves to Peru THIS Wednesday.  It’s so fun to get letters from him and see how excited he is to conquer the world with the good news of the gospel.  I’ve been writing his mission blog for him and putting up recent letters etc.  The site is http://elderjacobbryanthatch.blogspot.com.  I went with my parents to drop him off at the MTC.  Now you actually drive up to the curb and drop your missionary off.  It was seriously the weirdest experience of my life!!!  I wrote about it on his blog if you want to read more.  I couldn’t stop snapping pictures of him the day that he left.  This is the last one I got of the both of us:

hello, again

Sorry I’ve been so lazy about blogging lately!  All I’ve felt like doing lately is eating Creamies, sleeping, and watching TLC.   I have loved it though because I have an excuse for doing all those things multiple times a day…

Because I’m pregnant! We are very excited.  I’m due the first of August, which will be an exciting but not convenient time for us because we could be in Seoul, S. Korea (that is for another post).  I am really excited to have a baby in the Summer this time.

Being pregnant the second time around has already been so much more relaxing and enjoyable than the first time. I know that my body knows how to make a baby and carry it full term so I feel like I can relax and enjoy being pregnant. I really do love being pregnant.

I got an ultrasound last week and when the picture came up on the screen of our baby waving its arms and legs around I got teary eyed.  It really is so amazing that a tiny baby is growing inside of me, and it’s even more amazing that everything knows how to grow and develop.  Our bodies really are perfect.  How can some people not believe in a higher being? 

We’ve tried to help Carly understand that her life is going to turned upside down this Summer, but of course she has no idea what’s coming.  When we’ve asked her if she wants to be a big sister she replies, “NO!” Oh well, too late now!

The Break

I can’t believe that Christmas break is already over.   I cannot describe how great it was to get 2 and 1/2 weeks of Casey all to myself.  No homework, no work, nothing! We had a great time doing whatever we wanted, and spending a lot of time of both of our families. 

This year was the first year in 3 years that we didn’t fly somewhere during the break.  It was AWESOME!  I loved not having to stress about how Carly was going to sleep or travel.

I got to meet my nephew Bentley for the first time.  He is such a cutie.  I am officially baby hungry.

We spent Christmas Eve with my family this year.  All the kids dressed up and acted out the Nativity.  Carly was the Innkeeper.  She even got her lines down and said them at the right time, “No room!”

Little Thomas was dressed up as a Wise Man. 

 

On Christmas morning Carly got to open presents from both Grandmas and Grandpas and she was very surprised to see everything that Santa brought her. Carly even gave us a present this year, she slept in until 8:30 for two weeks straight!

 

A few days after Christmas a blizzard hit Provo.  Casey shoveled snow for 3 hours straight. Carly had fun trying out her new snow pants that Santa brought her.
